Just before 9 a.m. this morning, Oshawa Fire Services responded to a working fire at 170 Simcoe Street South.

When fire crews arrived, they came into heavy smoke conditions coming from a first-floor apartment, made entry, and found the fire in the kitchen area of the unit. Oshawa Fire Services had the fire out quickly containing it to the one unit.

Deputy Chief Steve Barkwell says the cause is cooking related, and also says that all smoke alarms were working. No injuries and damage is estimated at $200.000
