Durham Regional Police Service is investigating a suspicious apartment fire in Whitby.

Whitby Fire & Emergency Services responded to an apartment building on Mason Drive on Friday, September 4, 2020, in the early morning hours where a fire was extinguished and contained to an area of the building.

A 53-year-old male was found suffering from serious injuries, Region of Durham Paramedic Services provided pre-hospital care before transporting the male to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious life-threatening injuries. The male remains in hospital in stable condition.

The office of the Ontario Fire Marshall attended the scene and conducted an investigation and have confirmed the cause of the fire to be Arson.

Durham Regional Police are looking for any witnesses to come forward.
