A Whitby man has been charged with attempted murder after attacking a fellow renter at a Whitby residence.

On Saturday, February 8, 2020, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Durham Regional Police Service responded to a call involving an assault with a weapon on Annes Street in Whitby. They located an elderly male suffering from multiple injuries as a result of being struck by a crowbar. The victim was taken to the hospital by Region of Durham Paramedic Services, and a lone male suspect was arrested at the scene.

Investigation revealed that both men were renting rooms at the residence. Just after 7 a.m., the suspect entered the room of the victim and attacked him with a crowbar. A witness heard the commotion and came to the rescue of the victim.

Charles AVERY, age 45, of Annes Street in Whitby, is charged with: Attempted Murder; Aggravated Assault; Assault with a Weapon; Weapons Dangerous and Threatening. He was held for a bail hearing.
