This week marks National Air Ambulance Week, and we would love to give a big thanks to our friends at Ornge. A vital part of Ontario’s health care system, Ornge provides high-quality air ambulance service and medical transport to people who are critically ill or injured. In the air and on the ground, their job is to be there for patients, so they can get safe and timely care, transport and access to health services they need. Ornge owns a fleet of aircraft and land ambulances operating out of 12 bases across Ontario. Vehicles in their fleet include 8 Pilatus Next Generation PC-12 airplanes, 11 Leonardo AW-139 helicopters, and 13 Crestline Commander land ambulances

Our Region of Durham Paramedic Services and Ornge work very well together as all the services do in Ontario in an emergency it is the hard work of our first responders, call takers and dispatchers that make it all safe from in the air to a safe landing zone for Ornge. For us here in Durham Region we mainly see the helicopter and land ambulances. Billy Bishop Airport is where Ornge is based for the helicopter in our area, and it can be in our Region in about 15 minutes providing the best care when we need it.

Ornge performs approximately 20, 000 patient-related means of transport every year from communities across Ontario just like ours.
