On Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at just before 6:30 a.m., Durham Regional Police were dispatched to a residential fire on Pennine Drive in Whitby to assist with traffic control. The fire was extinguished, and the fire was deemed suspicious by the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall. There were no injuries reported.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., Police responded to an abandoned home on Wilson Road South in Oshawa for a fully engulfed house. The fire was extinguished, and the fire was deemed suspicious by the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall. No one was physically hurt as a result of the fire.

Both fire investigations are ongoing and separate. There is nothing to suggest they are related. Investigators will be canvassing the areas and going through surveillance cameras to get suspect information.
