On Monday, March 4, 2019, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Durham Regional Police Service members of West Division responded to the Pioneer gas station on Harwood Avenue in Ajax for an armed robbery. The suspect entered the store and jumped the counter to grab the cash register. A customer attempted to confront the suspect and a physical struggle ensued. The customer suffered a fractured elbow during the interaction and the suspect fled on foot.

Officers, with the assistance of PSD Flex, were able to track him down to a nearby residence on Gilmour Drive, where the suspect barricaded himself in a room. While officers were speaking to the suspect, the suspect attempted to harm himself, so officers deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW). The male then reached for a gun and the CEW was deployed again. He was taken into custody at approximately 9:20 p.m. and the gun turned out to be an imitation firearm.

The investigation has revealed that the suspect is responsible for four separate robberies in Toronto in the month of February 2019 and a pharmacy robbery in Pickering on September 1, 2018.

Joshua HOGAN, age 24, of No Fixed Address is charged with 49 Robbery and Firearm-Related Offences. He was held for a bail hearing.
