On Thursday, December 20, 2018, at approximately 10:00 a.m., emergency services were called to a serious collision involving two vehicles on Winchester Road and Princess Street in north Whitby.

A GMC Terrain and a Nissan Sentra were both travelling eastbound on Winchester Road just east of Baldwin Street when they collided, sending the Nissan Sentra into a concrete barrier. Three Markham teens in the Sentra were extricated by Whitby Fire and Emergency Services and Region of Durham Paramedic Services. The 18-year-old driver and a 17-year-old male passenger were transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Durham Regional Police secured a safe landing zone at the Luther Vipond Brooklin Memorial Arena for the other 18-year-old male passenger who was airlifted by Ornge to a Toronto-area trauma center with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the GMC, a 76-year-old Whitby woman, was not injured.

 Durham Regional Police conducted an investigation. Winchester Road was closed in both directions from Princess Street to Church Street were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
