A 29-year-old Brampton man was seriously injured when his eastbound tractor trailer collided with another eastbound tractor trailer making a left turn from the Highway 401 eastbound off ramp onto Brock Road in Pickering.
On Saturday, November 10, 2018, at approximately 6:50 a.m., members from West Division were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision involving two transport tractor trailers. Witnesses state both vehicles were eastbound on Highway 401 off ramp at Brock Road. The lead tractor trailer was making a left hand turn to go north onto Brock Road when it was t-boned by the tractor trailer behind it that appeared to be going straight through the intersection. The force of the impact sent both vehicles across both lanes of traffic and into the cement bridge pillar. The bridge structure was damaged and the bridge will remain closed until further notice.
The male driver in the rear tractor trailer sustained serious injuries and was taken to a Toronto-area trauma center to be assessed. It was later determined that his injuries were not life-threatening. The other male driver was not injured.
Members of the Durham Regional Police Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the collision scene to conduct an investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
